Brenda Powell

When I created my piece, I used the stick forming method to make it. My first intention was to  make a big bowl to use as a cereal bowl or soup bowl, but I soon found out I didn't have enough clay. When I finished sculpting my piece, I was happy with how it turned out regardless of the fact that it wasn't how I wanted it to be at first.
My piece is glazed with iron red and oatmeal. I first dipped the iron red on the piece then poured oatmeal on it. I decided I am going to use the piece for a sauce bowl. The form of the piece is functional for this because it is small but deep enough to hold the sauce.
Over the nine weeks, I made 8 pieces. I chose this piece because I love how the glaze turned out and I like the shape of the bowl. This piece is one of my final pieces so I wanted to show how I improved as the class progressed.
My favorite part of this piece is the glaze. I would however probably make the walls thinner or have a larger bowl. This particular piece taught me how to do stick forming.

This 9 weeks I have made a total of 15 pieces. My inspirations were Hanna Wagner and Madison Staub. Hanna inspired me to make my pieces more "perfect". Madisons techniques with her glazing helped make mine turn out better. At first I focused on hand building like pinching, coil, and slab work. Towards the end I used the wheel a lot more, I enjoyed seeing myself improve, especially with centering. I chose these pieces to be my final project because they turned out the best in my opinion and they are most appealing to me. This year I feel that I have improved the most on the wheel, even if most of my pieces were small. If I could change or made anything better I would have made more mugs and focused more on glazing. I struggled with pinch pots the most this year, I could never get them to be even everywhere. Several other students in Ceramics helped me with centering on the wheel, and giving me different ideas, especially with glazing.

This nine weeks I would like to say I made about 15 items.Throughout the course my time was equally separated by doing hand and wheel work. These three pieces were chosen out of the other ones because they came out the nicest. Slab would was very easy for me to work with and I had successful pieces when doing it. If I would get the chance to take this class again i would spend 80 percent of my time of the wheel so I can get really good at it because I believe that was my biggest struggle this time around. From this class I learned that glaze works best with a few thin coats instead of one thick coat.

Crystal Bryson

I completed 18 pieces this nine weeks. The things that inspired me the most would be the tutorials and the glaze demonstration that Madison did. I chose these pieces because I think these are the best. I feel most successful in slab construction and glazing. I focused more on slab construction than anything else. I did slab constructions the most because I feel like I'm really good at it. If i could change or do anything differently it would be to have made more pieces on the wheel. I struggled with centering on the wheel this nine weeks. I learned how to glaze really good by watching a fellow class mate. I used her technique on some of my pieces but I also mixed it up by using different colors.

This was a wheel project that at first held no original intention. I was merely trying to work on my skills and it worked out so nicely that i decided to make a bowl. The bowl is about 3 inches high and is first glazed in mink brown. Then I poured Mediterranean mist inside and let it drip onto the outside. I then dripped Acapocue blue outside. If I could have changed the glazing I would have added midnight sky to the glazes that I picked. I completed 8 pieces throughout the class that i glazed and made others that i didn't want to keep. I think the hardest thing in ceramics for me was centering on the wheel but i am pleased with the outcome of my pieces throughout the class.

The process i used was slab construction. My intention on this piece was exactly how it turned out. The glazes I used were bright red and bright purple. My function of this piece was for it to hold my spare change and to hold my dollar bills.i made 5 glazed pieces this 9 weeks.I like this piece because its nice and small. And because it cut Chucky's finger open. If i could change something about it it would be taking the sharp edges off. From ceramics I learned how to score and smush.

I've completed 13 works this 9 weeks. I was inspired by quite a few people and things, but Pinterest was the main one. Madison and Lyndsay also inspired my glazing methods. This 9 weeks I focused on the wheel the most because I like how it turns out level and smooth and I needed a lot of practice. I chose the three pieces above for my final because the glazes are the best I've ever done. The area that I've felt most successful in is throwing. If I could do anything differently, it would probably be the way I glazed because it took my a long time to get the hang of it and I still kind of am. I would also make my carvings deeper and make sure my pieces don't always crack. This 9 weeks, I learned from Madison and Lyndsay how to glaze and how to make colors work and mostly how to throw and center better.

Haley Lester

This 9 weeks I made 16 completed pieces. I don't necessarily have a person or thing as my inspiration. It is more based off of how I feel at the time and what I see around me. I focused most on my coil pot this nine weeks. The process took a very long time but I think it was worth it. I also took a good amount of time on foam slump. they gave me the best result and I enjoy them. I chose these works for my final because they are all similar in color and I used the same glazes for them all. Also they were all my favorite pieces. I'd say the process of forming coil pots was my favorite and I liked the process of glazing. If I could have changed anything I would have just taken more time to finish each of my coils. Also I would change some of my glazes. I struggled a lot with throwing this 9 weeks. From the other students in the room I learned how to glaze a little bit better. Madison's demo helped a lot. I also learned some forming techniques from watching those around me.

Madison Staub

This nine weeks in advanced ceramics I made 17 total pieces of pottery. I inspired myself to create better pieces than my previous class. I focused on my wheel work the most this nine weeks.I wanted to be the best I could be on the wheel so I dedicated myself to it. I used the wheel for three of my final pieces and one was out of the stiff slab construction method. I felt most successful in my wheel work after I practiced on it. I would change how I glazed some of my pieces. I struggled the most with coil construction and creating a box. I learned glazing combinations from other students and used wheel techniques from other classmates.

Lyndsay LeBedda

I made about 20 items this 9 weeks. I liked making cool shapes that reminded me of nature and that were unique. I focused on throwing this 9 weeks the most. I love throwing because I wanted to keep throwing better and better every time. I choose this work for my final because I loved how it turned out and the glaze came out much better than I thought it would. This year I most successful is slab making because I made a lot of things that were made out of slabs. I struggled with glaze running in the beginning of this year. Ive learned a lot from my fellow classmates on how to glaze better and stop it from running. If I could change something that Ive done this 9 weeks I would definitely focus on making one big thing than a bunch of little things.

Gabby Schambach

I made a stiff slab to start making my mug. I waited a day for it to turn leather hard, then used the extra slab for my handle and heart. I also used a stamp for the texture. For my glaze I chose to use teal blue and pink coral. I will use my mug for drinking tea, coffee, etc! I glazed 10 pieces this nine weeks. I liked this piece the most because I thought the glaze was pretty and I will probably use it the most. I would probably make my piece a little more even around but it turned out the way I wanted it to pretty much. I learned how to work with stiff slabs and how to make handles by making this mug.

Emily Frazee

To make this project I had rolled out a slab to start my creation. My intention was to make a small tea cup but it had turned out to be a big nice coffee cup that I love and use all the time. For the glaze I used mat black and oatmeal around the top and the handle. I will intend on using this cup for drinking out of. I made 12 total glazed pieces this 9 weeks. I love the color of the glaze that I put on the mug and the handle was very interesting because I used a stamp to put a pattern that looked like a snake which I liked. I also liked the top of the cup of how it was formed. If I had to I would change the mat black glaze to like a dark blue. It was a much bigger piece than what I intended it to be. Making a slab and using the stamp designs made me learn many skills while I created this project.

Making this pot I used stiff slab my original intention was to fit more than one flower in the pot but that didn't end up happening. I used mottled green as my glaze.the function is that it is fat at the ends and skinny in the midddle. I choose this work of art because its very unique and wavy. I really like the shape of it too. If i could change anything on it i would of made it a lot wider.

William Hanuschock

Throughout the course of this 9 weeks I have made 7 ceramics pieces. When I had my first ceramics class last 9 weeks, I was very inspired by the advanced ceramics students and all their great work. Now that I am in advanced ceramics I am still inspired by my fellow advanced ceramics classmates. The main skill I focused on was wheel work, trying to prefect the techniques of centering, trimming, and pulling. I chose the pinch pots and the wheel candle holder because they show my progress within and throughout ceramics. Personally I felt most successful with pinch forming. The only thing I would change would be to know what color the glazes turn out once they are fired, I'm not a big fan of guessing. Within ceramics the main thing I struggled with was the wheel, mainly with centering. But throughout everything in ceramics is learned the most from my fellow advanced students including: the proper way to center and to be patient with my work. Ceramics has been one of my favorite courses throughout my whole high school career, it has a very relaxed atmosphere, while being very educational.
